SELLING your home usually revolves around one key question: how much will I get for it? The honest answer is, of course, however much the buyer is willing to pay. There are a number of online resources which can help you get a ballpark figure – and also plenty of advice about how to go through the selling process.

Simply seeing what houses are selling, or have recently sold for, in your neighbourhood is a good start. The Independent Property Search will reveal which houses are for sale for in your town and will give the asking price. Websites such as houseprices.co.uk will give figures for houses sold over recent years in your neighbourhood and give an estimate on its current value.

At some point you’ll want to call in the experts for a professional opinion. The National Association of Estate Agents will provide details of local agents linked to them. Their website also provides much useful information on selling your home including tips on “adding a sense of space”, “kerb appeal” and pricing your home. Similarly the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors has a searchable directory of surveyors and their consumer guides include everything from selling your home to boundary disputes.

The site has been put together by developers who know the market inside out and are happy to share their secrets with consumers keen to get the best price for their property.
